Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier and 21 accomplices in Mafa Local Government Area, Borno State.
According to counter-terrorism source Zagazola Makama, the group was transporting a large quantity of smoked fish believed to be used to finance insurgent activities. The arrests occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Checkpoint 2 in Mafa, carried out by soldiers of the 112 Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade.
The main suspect, 40-year-old Ibrahim Bukar, was intercepted along with 21 others while transporting 59 cartons and 28 sacks of smoked fish in two Isuzu trucks.
A security source revealed that the fish was sourced from Laje village and provided by insurgents.
Preliminary investigations showed that Bukar has been supplying various items to terrorists over time. He was also identified by hybrid forces as a former supplier during previous insurgent operations in the bush.
All 22 suspects and the recovered goods are currently in custody for further investigation.
