Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is mourning the loss of his mother, Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, who passed away after a brief illness.

While the footballer has yet to publicly confirm the tragedy, his brother, David Chukwueze, announced the death in a series of emotional Instagram posts, revealing the family’s deep grief.

Struggling to come to terms with the loss, David wrote, “Can’t even post your picture to say RIP mum.”

In another tribute, he added, “My forever love just left me without saying goodbye,” and lamented that she never got the chance to meet her grandchild, saying, “You didn’t even carry your grandchild.”

The National Sports Commission (NSC) later confirmed the development in an official statement.

“The National Sports Commission is deeply saddened by the confirmed passing of Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze,” the statement read.

The Commission disclosed that the death had been publicly shared by members of the Chukwueze family, adding:

“The Commission has been informed that Mrs Chukwueze passed away following a brief illness, a loss that has been publicly shared by members of the Chukwueze family.”

Extending its condolences, the NSC described the late Mrs Chukwueze as a key support figure in her son’s football journey.

“Across the landscape of Nigerian sport, the role of family remains central to the character and resilience shown by many of our elite athletes. Mrs Chukwueze’s influence on the personal journey of her son and her support for his professional pursuit are acknowledged and respected by the sports community,” the Commission said.

It further pledged solidarity with the AC Milan forward during this difficult period.

“The National Sports Commission stands in solidarity with Samuel Chukwueze and offers support to him and his family at this difficult time,” the statement added.

Details surrounding Mrs Chukwueze’s illness were not disclosed.

Chukwueze recently featured for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third. He is yet to issue a personal statement on the loss.

The sad news comes just two days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State, marking a sombre moment for Nigerian football.
