The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged political leaders to show empathy and take concrete steps to alleviate the hardships faced by citizens as Christians across the country mark Palm Sunday.

In a statement issued by its President, Daniel Okoh, the association подчеркed that Palm Sunday embodies the values of peace, humility, and hope. It called on leaders to reflect these virtues in governance, particularly in light of Nigeria’s current economic challenges.

CAN observed that many Nigerians are struggling with the rising cost of living, driven by increases in fuel prices, transportation fares, and food costs, all of which have placed significant pressure on household incomes.

The association warned that the prevailing economic conditions have left citizens anxious about their ability to cope and plan for the future. It stressed that in such uncertain times, leadership must inspire confidence through both words and decisive actions.

“True leadership is not always loud. It is seen in restraint, in empathy, and in a steady focus on the common good,” the statement read, urging authorities to implement policies that will ease hardship, reduce public anxiety, and promote national unity.

CAN also encouraged Nigerians—especially young people and those most affected by the economic strain—not to lose hope, noting that the current difficulties can be overcome.

“As we journey through this sacred season, may the spirit of Palm Sunday guide us towards quiet courage, shared purpose, and a renewed commitment to the good of all,” the statement added.

The association concluded by offering prayers for unity, peace, and progress, while calling on citizens to work together in addressing the nation’s challenges.
