A 25-year-old man, Michael Ikuedowoni, has died following a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident, which occurred over the weekend, reportedly stemmed from an argument over allegations of infidelity. According to witnesses, the confrontation escalated when Mowari allegedly stabbed Ikuedowoni in the leg with a pair of scissors during a heated exchange in their shared residence.
A close associate of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the couple had been experiencing ongoing trust issues.
“That day, Augustina accused Michael of cheating. Things got heated quickly. In a moment of rage, she grabbed scissors and stabbed him in the leg,” the source recounted.
Initially, Ikuedowoni was treated at a local hospital and discharged. However, his condition worsened the following day as his leg became severely swollen. He was rushed back to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the suspect had been arrested and was currently in custody.
“Yes, the incident happened during an argument between the two. The suspect stabbed the victim with a pair of scissors. He later died in the hospital. The suspect is now in custody, and the case will be charged to court after investigations are concluded,” Ayanlade said.
The case has sparked renewed concern over rising domestic violence incidents and the need for better conflict resolution awareness among young couples.
