As Nigeria prepares to celebrate its 65th independence anniversary, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as it continues to roll out reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during an inter-ministerial world press conference in Abuja, Idris said the Tinubu-led government has made significant strides across key sectors, and that Nigerians would soon begin to see the tangible benefits of the administration’s policies.

“The President is fully aware of the current challenges Nigerians are facing,” Idris said. “But the fruits of the administration’s painstaking efforts over the past 28 months will soon become visible. We urge Nigerians to hold on to hope.”

New Tax Act to Launch in January 2026

One of the major announcements from the press conference was the implementation of a new tax act, slated to begin in January 2026. The act, according to the minister, will simplify tax collection procedures and significantly boost government revenues.

“This new tax regime will not only streamline revenue collection but also help to fund critical infrastructure and social programmes,” he stated.

Idris highlighted several achievements by the Tinubu administration since taking office, including:

  • Steady increase in oil production, with sector losses at a 16-year low
  • Over $5 million invested in deep-water exploration projects
  • Royalties from solid minerals doubled between 2023 and 2024
  • Increased inclusivity across all geo-political zones, ensuring nationwide impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda

“These feats are eloquent testimonies that Nigeria is on the right path,” the minister asserted.

Inclusive Governance and National Reorientation

Emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance, the minister noted that every region in the country has benefited from the administration’s initiatives. He urged citizens to set aside regional or political divides and support a shared vision for national progress.

“This government is not leaving anyone behind. From the North to the South, East to West, the Renewed Hope Agenda is being implemented with fairness and purpose,” Idris added.

A Message of Unity and Optimism

As part of Nigeria’s 65th independence celebrations, the minister urged Nigerians at home and abroad to show understanding, unity, and patriotism, noting that collective belief in the country’s potential is key to overcoming current difficulties.

“Let us come together as one people, with shared dreams, and support the President’s vision. The journey has begun, and Nigeria is on the rise,” he concluded.
