The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, received the “Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award” on Saturday from the School of Communications and Media Studies, Learn To Live Business School UK (LLBSUK).
The honour marked one of the major highlights of the institution’s 2025 Post-Graduate Programme awards ceremony, which celebrated graduands from Cohorts 1 and 2.
The event, held in an atmosphere of joy and professional accomplishment, brought together media scholars, practitioners, and families of the graduating students.
Among the graduands were Mrs. Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Gloria Ikiba, Arith, Yecenu Joyce Sasetu, and several others who successfully completed the rigorous academic programme.
Presenting the award, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Chairman of AFIA Television, Chief Emeka Mba, described Comrade Ike as a trailblazer whose leadership continues to shape national conversations.
He commended her years of advocacy, mentorship, and steadfast defence of press freedom, noting that her work has made her a reference point in Nigeria’s media landscape.
“This award recognizes Comrade Grace Ike as an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in promoting ethical journalism, free expression, and responsible media practice,” he said.
In her remarks, Comrade Ike expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing the honour as both humbling and inspiring. She noted that the award reinforces her commitment to strengthening the media’s role in national development.
“I am delighted by this recognition from the School of Communications and Media Studies,” she said. “Strategic communication is central to our national growth. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and engage the public.”
Reaffirming her dedication to ethical reporting, she pledged to continue championing narratives that rebuild public trust in the media. “I will do my best to inspire my people to tell stories that will shape public confidence. The media must remain a credible bridge between government, institutions, and citizens,” she added.
The ceremony also marked a significant milestone for the graduands, many of whom expressed enthusiasm about advancing into higher professional roles equipped with new skills in communication strategy, media ethics, and development reporting, competencies LLBSUK hopes will further strengthen the industry.
The event concluded with certificate presentations, awards, group photographs, and networking among academics and media practitioners.
