Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has called on security agencies to investigate and possibly arrest a United States-based missionary, Alex Barbir, following a controversial video he shared online.
The development comes hours after Barbir released a video criticising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over renewed attacks in Plateau State.
Reports indicate that more than 10 people were killed when gunmen attacked the Anguwan Rukuba community in Jos, specifically in Jos North Local Government Area, on Sunday, March 29.
In the video, Barbir accused the Nigerian government of failing to address insecurity and protect Christian communities, alleging that the President had not done enough to curb the violence.
Reacting to the development, Ahmad said the missionary’s comments could incite unrest, alleging that Barbir had been moving around freely “spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.”
He further urged relevant authorities to act swiftly, calling on them to “take swift and lawful steps to investigate, apprehend, where necessary, and ensure accountability to safeguard peace, unity and public order.”
