The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has condemned the brutal killing of no fewer than 35 civilians in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, describing the massacre as a “devastating blow” to the conscience of the nation.

In a strongly worded statement, the Forum’s chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, expressed outrage over the attack, which reportedly occurred despite ransom payments made by families of the abducted victims.

“This act of barbarity is an affront to our collective humanity. It is unthinkable that after families endured the trauma of abduction and still paid ransom, they are now grieving the loss of their loved ones,” the Forum stated.

The lawmakers described the killings as a harrowing reminder of the deepening insecurity in Northern Nigeria, and called for immediate, coordinated action by security forces to track down and prosecute the perpetrators.

“This is not who we are as a people. The North is known for its hospitality, compassion, and resilience. These killings are completely alien to our values,” the statement read.
Offering condolences to the victims’ families and the wider Zamfara community, the Forum prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and strength for those left behind.

The senators also advocated for stronger synergy between national security agencies and local vigilante groups to enhance intelligence gathering and real-time response.

“Our security architecture must be retooled. No Nigerian should die under such horrifying circumstances, especially not after their families have done all they can to secure their release.”
The Forum acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address the nation’s security challenges, particularly through enhanced military recruitment and increased defence spending.

“We hope to see smarter deployment strategies and improved operational intelligence. Our people are weary. They deserve to live in peace,” the statement added.

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all legislative and institutional measures aimed at restoring peace and ensuring justice for victims of violence across the North and the country at large.
