Troops rescue 12 abducted girls in Borno after Intelligence-Led operation

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 12 teenage girls abducted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the Mussa District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the operation in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Sunday, noting that the victims have been moved to a secure military facility for medical evaluation and psychological support.

According to the statement, the girls, aged between 15 and 20, were abducted on 23 November while harvesting crops on their family farmlands.

“They were freed on Saturday, 29 November, following a swift, intelligence-led operation by troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the southern Borno axis,” the Army said.

The rescued victims are currently receiving comprehensive medical treatment, psychological care, and debriefing, after which they will be formally reunited with their families.

The Army identified the rescued girls as: Fatima Shaibu (17), Fatima Umaru (15), Hauwa Abubakar (18), Saliha Muhammed (15), Sadiya Umaru (17), Amira Babel (15), Zara Adamu (17), Nana Shaibu (15), Zainab Musa (18), Zainab Muhammed (17), Jamila Saidu (15), and Hauwa Hamidu (17).

The military high command praised the troops for their rapid response and acknowledged the contributions of security stakeholders and local informants whose timely intelligence made the rescue possible.

“Troops continue to pursue ISWAP remnants across southern Borno to prevent further attacks and safeguard civilians,” the statement added.

The Army also urged communities to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that such cooperation remains vital to defeating terrorism in the region.
