Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the Benue State Executive Council, bringing an end to the tenure of commissioners who have served in his administration for the past two years.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday at the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting of 2025. In a major reshuffle aimed at reinvigorating governance, Governor Alia also appointed Barrister Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff.
Atagher, a seasoned legal expert and administrator, previously served two terms as Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He also held the position of Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. His appointment takes immediate effect.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their service and commitment. He urged those not reappointed to remain steadfast in their support for the administration and the ruling party, noting that their exit was to give others a chance to contribute to state development.
The dissolution affects only the commissioners. Permanent Secretaries have been directed to take over the affairs of the ministries pending further appointments.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing executive members, Bemsen Mnyim thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve, describing the experience as a valuable learning journey.
“Every stage in life is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you,” Mnyim said.
