The Federal Government has officially commenced disbursement of the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), with over 9,000 staff members from various institutions benefitting in the first year of implementation.

A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, mentioned that the 9,000 beneficiaries represent 28% of the 33,000 verified applicants drawn from 219 Federal and State tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparent fund management, quarterly financial reporting, and continuous collaboration with participating institutions to ensure that the disbursed funds translate into improved staff welfare, motivation, and institutional performance.

The Ministry also emphasized that repayments from the initial beneficiaries will enable more staff members to access the fund in subsequent rounds.

Speaking on the milestone, Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, described the initiative as a major step in “restoring dignity, rewarding dedication, and rebuilding the foundation of Nigeria’s knowledge economy.”

The Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund is a flagship project under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to strengthen staff welfare, institutional productivity, and innovation within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

Launched in August 2025, following a high-level stakeholders’ session, the Fund provides staff of tertiary institutions with interest-free loans of up to ₦10 million.

These funds are intended to support housing, education, healthcare, transportation, and small business development, as well as help staff address key livelihood and productivity challenges while promoting a more stable and motivated academic workforce.
