Gombe tragedy: NUJ FCT Council pays tribute to six journalists lost on duty

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the tragic death of six journalists who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident while on official duty.

 

In a condolence message signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, the Council described the fallen journalists as gallant professionals whose commitment to truth and service to humanity defined their careers.

 

“The news of the untimely death of these gallant journalists came to us with profound shock and deepest sorrow,” Ike said. “They were shining beacons of truth, courage and dedication to the noble profession of journalism.”

 

The NUJ FCT Council extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, and the entire NUJ family nationwide, noting that the loss has created an irreplaceable vacuum within the media community.

 

“Their departure leaves an irreplaceable void in our ranks, but their legacy of fearless reporting and unwavering service to humanity will endure forever,” the statement added.

 

Comrade Ike assured the families and colleagues of the deceased that the NUJ FCT Council stands firmly in solidarity with them during this difficult period, while offering prayers for divine comfort and strength.

 

“We pray that the gentle souls of our departed colleagues find eternal peace in the bosom of the Almighty God, and that He grants their families, friends and colleagues the fortitude to bear this painful loss,” she said.

 

The NUJ FCT Council concluded by reiterating its fraternal solidarity with the Gombe State media family and the Nigerian journalism community at larg.
