The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the death of seven journalists from Gombe State who lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of its National Executive Council (NEC) and the entire NUJ family nationwide, the Union described the incident as a devastating blow to the journalism profession in Gombe State and across the country.

“The untimely passing of these dedicated media professionals is a painful loss, not only to their families and colleagues, but to the Nigerian media industry as a whole,” the NUJ said. “They were courageous and committed journalists who served the public with integrity, professionalism and dedication.”

The Union extended its heartfelt condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, as well as the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased journalists, noting that their deaths have created an irreplaceable void in the media community.

“The NUJ shares in this moment of grief and stands in full solidarity with the bereaved families and the Gombe State media family,” the statement added. “We pray that Almighty God grants eternal rest to the souls of our departed colleagues and gives their loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss.”

Beyond mourning the tragedy, the NUJ used the occasion to renew calls for improved road safety measures across the country, stressing that journalists and other professionals are frequently exposed to road hazards in the line of duty.

“This tragic incident once again underscores the urgent need for responsible driving and enhanced road safety measures to prevent avoidable loss of lives,” the Union said.

The NUJ concluded by paying final tributes to the fallen journalists, praying that their souls rest in perfect peace.
