FCCPC Summons MultiChoice Over DSTV, GOTV Price Hike

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned MultiChoice Nigeria over its decision to increase subscription rates for its pay-TV services, DStv and GOtv.

Customers recently received notifications about the price hike, which will take effect on March 1, 2025. Under the new rates, the DStv Premium bouquet will rise from ₦37,000 to ₦44,500, while Compact+ subscribers will pay ₦30,000 instead of ₦25,000.

Reacting to the increase, the FCCPC has directed MultiChoice Nigeria’s CEO to appear for an investigative hearing at its headquarters on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Regulatory Scrutiny and Consumer Protection
FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, stated that the agency is concerned about “recurrent unilateral price hikes” and the potential abuse of market dominance in Nigeria’s pay-TV sector.

“The Commission is committed to ensuring fair competition and consumer protection. Should MultiChoice fail to provide a satisfactory explanation, regulatory penalties or other corrective measures may be imposed,” Ijagwu added.

The FCCPC is working with the sector regulator and other relevant agencies to address concerns about pricing practices and market fairness in Nigeria’s broadcasting and digital subscription industry.
