President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, to attend the final rites for his predecessor, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The presidential aircraft touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, at exactly 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The president was received by top-ranking government officials, including state governors, federal ministers, and traditional leaders.

President Tinubu is expected to personally receive the remains of the late retired Major General and former military Head of State, who also served two terms as Nigeria’s democratically elected president, ruling for a combined total of nine years and eight months.

Buhari’s body, flown from London where he passed away on July 13, was expected to land shortly after the president’s arrival and be conveyed to Daura, his native hometown, for interment. Daura, a quiet agrarian town located about three hours from Katsina city, is set to host dignitaries and mourners from across the country for the state burial.

Upon arrival, President Tinubu inspected a guard of honour mounted in his respect. Moments later, the aircraft carrying the late president’s body arrived at the airport and was formally received by President Tinubu, marking a solemn moment in Nigeria’s history.
