In a significant diplomatic move to reinforce regional stability and economic cooperation, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission hosted a high-level delegation from the Arab Republic of Egypt at its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. The delegation, led by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty, was welcomed by H.E. Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security.
The official visit aimed to deepen bilateral collaboration between ECOWAS and Egypt, focusing on key issues such as political transitions, peace and security in West Africa, and enhanced trade integration, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable development, with ECOWAS outlining its strategic priorities: promoting peace through mediation, advancing agriculture and infrastructure, and empowering the private sector as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth.
Minister Abdelatty lauded ECOWAS’s leadership in maintaining regional peace and pledged Egypt’s readiness to expand cooperation through sustained dialogue and actionable partnerships.
The Egyptian delegation also included key officials such as Ambassador Mohammed Fouad, Mr. Tamim Khallaf, Counsellor Ahmed Moharram, Mr. Hussein Shoukry, and Third Secretary Marc Hani.
The high-level engagement underscores a shared vision between Egypt and ECOWAS for a secure, interconnected, and economically resilient West African region.
