Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to deepening diplomatic and people-to-people relations with the Republic of Ghana, with a focus on safeguarding the rights and welfare of its citizens living in the West African country.
This assurance came from the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is currently on a two-day official visit to Ghana. The minister’s mission is aimed at strengthening Nigeria-Ghana relations and engaging stakeholders on issues concerning Nigerians residing in Ghana.
Shortly after arriving at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu had a brief but significant interaction with the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who was en route to London. The meeting set the tone for a series of high-level engagements planned throughout her stay.
The minister met with top Ghanaian officials, traditional rulers, and leaders of the Nigerian community to address concerns around the safety, business rights, and overall well-being of Nigerians in Ghana. Her visit also includes scheduled talks with Ghana’s President and Foreign Affairs Minister.
In a statement from her media office, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized the importance of mutual respect, cooperation, and regional stability as pillars of Nigeria’s foreign policy agenda under the current administration.
She is expected to return to Abuja on Thursday, July 31, following the completion of her diplomatic engagements.
