Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has endorsed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general election, while reaffirming his support for key economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on ARISE TV’s The Morning Show, Omo-Agege said his political stance remains unchanged despite his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I was a member of the APC. I never left the APC; the party left me and my over 230,000 supporters in Delta State,” he said.
The former Delta State governorship candidate reiterated his support for the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, describing them as necessary economic reforms.
“When Mr President came up with the economic policies, most especially the naira floatation and subsidy removal, these are policies I supported and continue to support,” he stated.
Omo-Agege explained that Obi’s support for similar policies played a significant role in his decision to endorse the former Anambra State governor.
“Even though these policies were espoused by Mr President, which I support, the same policies were also supported by Peter Obi,” he said.
He stressed that his endorsement of Obi does not represent a shift in his views on the reforms.
“The question is, have I changed my opinion about this? No, I have not,” he added.
According to Omo-Agege, his support for Obi is based on the belief that the NDC candidate may enjoy greater public trust in implementing the reforms.
“The policies are not bad policies,” he said.
