The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched its Field Awareness Campaign in The Gambia, aimed at strengthening youth engagement and promoting regional integration among young people across West Africa.
The campaign was officially launched on June 15, 2026, at Gambia Senior Secondary School, where more than 250 students participated in a series of interactive presentations and discussions focused on regional cooperation, free movement, peace, security, and the opportunities available to citizens within the ECOWAS region.

During the event, students were encouraged to take an active role in shaping the future of West Africa by embracing values of unity, civic responsibility, and cross-border collaboration. Organizers emphasized the importance of empowering young people with knowledge about regional institutions and the benefits of integration.
A major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the ECOWAS Club Gambia, a student-led initiative designed to foster civic leadership, cultural exchange, active citizenship, and peaceful dialogue within schools. The club is expected to serve as a platform for students to champion regional cooperation and community development.
ECOWAS officials noted that the awareness campaign forms part of broader efforts to engage the region’s youth, strengthen social cohesion, and build a generation committed to advancing peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across West Africa.
