The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive election materials ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, signaling its readiness to conduct a credible and transparent poll.
The distribution exercise took place on Thursday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, under the supervision of the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bunmi Omoseyindemi.
INEC officials deployed to the 16 Local Government Areas of the state were seen signing for and collecting election materials assigned to their respective councils. The materials were subsequently loaded into designated vehicles and transported under the protection of security personnel, including police escorts, to ensure their safe delivery.
Addressing journalists during the exercise, Omoseyindemi described the process as smooth and orderly, noting that the commission had put adequate measures in place to guarantee the timely distribution of all sensitive materials.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a peaceful, free, fair and transparent governorship election, stressing that the early distribution of materials was part of efforts to prevent logistical challenges and ensure seamless election-day operations.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also called on eligible voters across Ekiti State to participate actively in the democratic process by coming out in large numbers to cast their votes for candidates of their choice.
With the distribution of sensitive materials underway and security arrangements in place, attention now shifts to Saturday’s election as residents prepare to elect a new governor for the state.
