The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has hailed the recent Federal High Court judgment that restored its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and reinstated the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Sukubo described the ruling as a triumph for justice, the rule of law, and democratic governance within youth organisations across the country.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the CAC to restore the NYCN’s certificate of registration and reinstate Sukubo alongside other members of the council’s Board of Trustees. The court also directed the immediate dissolution of the interim management committee headed by Buhari Shehu, which had been established by the CAC and the Ministry of Youth Development to oversee the affairs of the council.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Binta Nyako ruled that the CAC lacked the statutory authority to determine the tenure of leaders of a registered organisation or appoint an interim management committee for any association. The court consequently declared the constitution and continued operation of the committee unlawful.
Reacting to the verdict, Sukubo commended the judiciary for what he described as a fair and courageous decision that reaffirmed confidence in Nigeria’s legal system.
“This judgment underscores the efficacy of the rule of law and strengthens democratic institutions. We commend the judiciary for standing on the side of justice,” he said.
The NYCN president assured Nigerian youths that the council would remain focused on its mandate of youth development, civic engagement, and national unity.
According to him, as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the council will intensify efforts to mobilise young people for voter education, community development initiatives, and conflict resolution programmes aimed at promoting peaceful participation in the democratic process.
The judgment effectively overturns the CAC’s decision of October 6, 2025, when the commission withdrew the NYCN’s certificate of registration, a move that triggered legal disputes over the leadership and administration of the council.
Observers say the ruling is expected to bring stability to the organisation and enable it to continue its activities as the umbrella body representing Nigerian youths nationwide.
