A resident pastor of the NKST (Universal Reformed Christian Church), Rev. Gbinde, has been kidnapped alongside two members of his congregation in Benue State, prompting renewed calls for stronger action against insecurity.
The church confirmed the abduction in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Dr. T. A. Targba, saying the victims were taken from the pastor’s residence at NKST Church, Andyar, in the Ishan Classis area of Benue State.

Describing the incident as “unfortunate,” the church appealed to its clergy, members and the wider public to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the three victims.
“We call on all clergy, members, congregations and the general public to join in fervent prayers for the safe and unconditional release of Rev. Gbinde and the two church members,” the statement said.
The church also expressed sympathy with the families of the abducted victims and the Andyar congregation, praying that they would receive strength, comfort and hope during the ordeal.
It urged security agencies, as well as the Benue State and Federal Governments, to act swiftly to secure the victims’ rescue and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
The statement further called on both levels of government to adopt more proactive and sustained measures to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, stressing that preventing attacks should take priority over responding after they occur.
Reaffirming its faith, the church said it remained steadfast in prayer and hopeful for the safe return of Rev. Gbinde, his companions and others still being held by kidnappers.
