The Lagos State Government has postponed all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers earlier scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, following the declaration of the annual Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.
The decision was announced to ensure the safety of students, teachers, examination officials, and other stakeholders, as movement restrictions are traditionally observed during the cultural festival in affected communities.
Education authorities said the affected examination papers will be rescheduled, with new dates to be communicated to schools, parents, and candidates in due course. Students sitting for the BECE have been advised to remain calm and continue their preparations while awaiting the revised timetable.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the examinations in a peaceful and secure environment, urging residents and school communities to cooperate with the temporary changes and observe all necessary directives during the festival period.
