The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dismissed concerns expressed by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his safety, saying no one is interested in harming the former Anambra State governor.

Umahi said Obi would be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election, adding that he believes the former presidential candidate would lose at the polls.

Obi had recently alleged that there were threats to his life, saying he was uncertain whether he would be alive to participate in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking while inspecting federal road projects in Ebonyi State on Friday, Umahi described Obi’s comments as a sign of political frustration.

“Nobody wants Obi dead. It’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” the minister was quoted as saying.

Umahi also suggested that Obi’s concerns were linked to his belief that the South-East remained his political stronghold following the 2023 presidential election.

“What he is afraid of is because he said the South-East is his catchment area because of the last election, which I call an accident of history,” he said.

The former Ebonyi State governor argued that President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure projects and appointments in the South-East had reshaped the region’s political landscape.

“We have come with visible development in the zone, and our people have now agreed with us that we are better off with President Tinubu to complete the good works he is doing for us than playing Artificial Intelligence (AI) kind of politics,” Umahi said.
