France captain Kylian Mbappe has won the 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s highest scorer with 10 goals.
The Real Madrid forward claimed the award after Argentina captain Lionel Messi failed to score in the final in New Jersey, leaving him with eight goals in the competition.
Mbappe finished ahead of Messi, while England midfielder Jude Bellingham and Norway striker Erling Haaland both ended the tournament with seven goals each.
The 27-year-old forward strengthened his place among football’s greatest World Cup players after also winning the Golden Boot at the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where France lost the final to Argentina.
Mbappe scored twice in France’s third-place play-off against England, although Gareth Southgate’s side won the match 6-4.
His latest achievement also saw him become the highest-scoring player in World Cup history, with 22 goals across three tournaments — one more than Messi.
“I would have preferred not to be the all-time top scorer and to be playing tomorrow’s match,” Mbappe said.
The French striker, who has earned more than 100 international caps, made his World Cup debut four year’s ago and has continued to break records on football’s biggest stage.
