Nigeria has called for the immediate de-escalation of rising tensions between the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that further hostilities could threaten regional peace and stability.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the reported attacks and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent a wider conflict.
“Nigeria strongly calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately de-escalate the situation, and refrain from any further actions that could inflame hostilities or endanger civilian lives and regional peace and stability,” the statement said.
The Federal Government urged the parties to embrace dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving the crisis, stressing that peaceful engagement remains the most effective path to lasting stability.
“The Federal Government urges the parties concerned to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means of resolving differences in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law,” the Ministry said.
Nigeria warned that any further escalation of the conflict could undermine security across the Middle East, with wider implications for regional stability.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful settlement of international disputes and pledged support for genuine efforts aimed at easing tensions and restoring calm.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and expresses its readiness to support all genuine and constructive efforts aimed at reducing tensions, restoring calm and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region,” the statement added.
The appeal reflects Nigeria’s longstanding foreign policy position of supporting dialogue, multilateral cooperation and adherence to international law in resolving global conflicts.
