The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir N15 million for violating consumer protection regulations over a passenger’s damaged baggage.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu disclosed the sanction in a post on his personal X account.

The authority said the fine followed RwandAir’s failure to resolve the passenger’s baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.

Under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations, airlines are required to provide consumer protection, compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.

The NCAA also directed RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 in first-need compensation.

Achimugu said the sanction reinforces the need for airlines to handle passenger complaints promptly and comply with consumer protection regulations.

The NCAA said airlines must ensure that passengers receive appropriate remedies when baggage-related problems occur.
