The Federal Capital Territory Police Command warns motorists against using vehicles without valid number plates, deliberately faded plates or concealed registration numbers in Abuja.

The command also warns against the use of fake diplomatic number plates or diplomatic plates by unauthorised persons in the FCT.

The warning comes from FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, following what the command describes as a proliferation of vehicles with concealed or invalid plates.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, such vehicles are allegedly being used by criminal elements to evade detection, identification and arrest.

“The Federal Capital Territory is a peculiar environment where the use of such vehicles poses significant security concerns, as it may hinder effective identification and tracking by law enforcement agencies,” the statement says.

The police specifically caution drivers of SUVs against concealing their number plates, except where authorised for top government officials.

CP Sanusi directs police officers across the FCT to intensify enforcement and ensure compliance with laws governing vehicle licensing.

The commissioner warns that motorists found violating the regulations will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He, however, directs officers carrying out the enforcement to act professionally and not use the exercise as an opportunity for extortion.

The command urges residents to support its operations and report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station.

Residents can also contact the FCT Police Command on 08032003913 or 08028940883.
