NAF releases names of 25 victims in Ondo crash

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirms that all 25 people on board an ATR-42 aircraft have died after it crashes in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.

 

The aircraft, with registration number NAF 931, is on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the crash occurs.

 

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, says the aircraft carries five crew members and 20 passengers.

 

“NAF 931 had 25 persons on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers,” the statement says.

 

The Air Force says search-and-rescue teams immediately begin operations in coordination with relevant authorities, but “no survivors have been found”.

 

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, expresses condolences to the victims’ families, colleagues and loved ones.

 

He describes the crash as “a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the nation” and assures the bereaved families of the military’s full support.

 

Investigation ordered

Air Marshal Aneke directs a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

 

The NAF urges the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information while the investigation continues.

 

“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to provide timely and verified updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement says.

 

It also appeals to the public to respect the privacy and dignity of the victims’ families.

A condolence register is opened at the NAF headquarters in Abuja for government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, security chiefs and other well-wishers.

 

Those on board

The five crew members are identified as Squadron Leader MI Aburime, the flight captain; Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje and Flight Lieutenant IS Bako, the co-pilots; and Warrant Officer Abubakar A and Corporal Uguru HC, aircraft technicians.

 

The 20 passengers include Flight Lieutenant TL Lazarus, Flight Lieutenant M Akinloye, Flying Officer IM Adeshina, Master Warrant Officer Onwuka F, Master Warrant Officer Matini BA, Warrant Officer Nuhu FS, Flight Sergeant James RB, Flight Sergeant Mohammed AI, Sergeant Ani AE, Sergeant Izibenikien SI, Sergeant Alafuka C, Sergeant Mbadugha AN, Lance Corporal Ugwuba FC, Lance Corporal Eledan GE, Mrs Ezeh Nneka, Godstmine Tarabina, Joy Micheal, Sunday Micheal, Ukeme David and Gideon Omotola.
