The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an alleged counterfeit alcoholic beverage operation in Ojo, Lagos State, seizing products valued at more than ₦2bn.
The agency said its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate carried out the raid at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway, following credible intelligence.
According to NAFDAC, the operation exposed more than 20 illegal stores concealed within makeshift parking facilities at the complex.
The agency said its operatives discovered suspects blending and counterfeiting popular alcoholic beverage brands, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and stockpiling banned imported products.
Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while the seized products were evacuated from the premises.
NAFDAC warned the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of illegal manufacturing, the revalidation of expired products, or the sale of counterfeit beverages.
The agency urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its official complaints line, 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
