Iran’s state television has reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian will help steer the country through a transitional period following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to the broadcast, Pezeshkian will form a three-member leadership group alongside judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and a senior representative from Iran’s legal council. The announcement cited Mohammad Mokhber, a close adviser to Khamenei, as the source of the information.

Meanwhile, large crowds gathered in central Tehran to mourn the late supreme leader. Thousands dressed in black assembled at Enghelab Square, waving Iranian flags and holding portraits of Khamenei. Some mourners were seen in tears as chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” echoed through the square.
