The United States has reportedly reached out to China for discussions on soaring tariffs that have rattled global markets and disrupted international supply chains, according to a Chinese state-affiliated media outlet on Thursday.

Punitive US tariffs — which now stand at up to 145% on numerous Chinese goods — came into effect in April, prompting Beijing to retaliate with its own set of steep 125% tariffs on American imports. The escalating trade war has raised concerns among businesses and investors worldwide.h

On Thursday, Yuyuan Tantian, a media platform linked to China’s state broadcaster CCTV, claimed that Washington was “proactively” seeking to initiate talks through “multiple channels” regarding the tariffs.

> “From a negotiation standpoint, the US is currently the more anxious party,” the outlet stated in a post on China’s popular social platform Weibo, suggesting mounting pressure on the Trump administration.

Former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly asserted that Beijing has approached Washington for trade discussions. Speaking at a NewsNation town hall on Wednesday, Trump said there’s a “very good chance we’re going to make a deal,” emphasizing that any agreement would be on American terms and must be “fair.”

However, Chinese officials have consistently denied that talks are underway, while maintaining a public stance advocating for dialogue based on “fairness, respect, and reciprocity.” At the same time, Beijing has vowed to stand firm in the ongoing trade dispute.

A video posted this week by China’s Foreign Ministry on social media reinforced the country’s defiant tone, declaring it would “never kneel down” in the face of economic pressure.

As trade tensions escalate, markets and multinational companies remain on edge, closely watching for any official confirmation or progress toward negotiations between the world’s two largest economies.
