In a rare display of unity and cultural pride, the people of Southern Taraba gathered in Wukari for a grand civic reception held in honour of Governor Agbu Kefas — the first indigenous son of Wukari to occupy the exalted office and the second ever from the southern zone of the state.
The well-attended event drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders from within and beyond Taraba State, all united in celebrating Governor Kefas’s contributions to the socio-economic and cultural development of the Kwararrafa Kingdom and Taraba State at large.

A Non-Political Celebration of Leadership and Legacy
Unlike typical political gatherings, organisers deliberately steered clear of partisan colourations. No political party songs were permitted, reflecting the event’s civic nature and focus on fostering peace, unity, and appreciation for indigenous leadership.
The reception, held at the Wukari township stadium, was organised by stakeholders from Southern Taraba, including Wukari, Ibi, Donga, Takum, Ussa Local Government Areas, and the Yangtu Special Development Area.
High-Profile Attendance Highlights Governor Kefas’s Growing Influence
The event’s distinguished guest list spoke volumes about Governor Kefas’s rising profile as a unifying leader. Representatives of the Benue State Governor, Taraba State senators Haruna Manu (Central) and Shu’aibu Isa Lau (North), and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Hon. Michael Aondoakaa, were in attendance.
Traditional rulers present included the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse; Mai Kaltungo, Engr. Sale Muhammed; Chief of Shendam; Chief of Doma; Emir of Muri; Chief of Ibi; Gara of Donga; and host monarch, the Aku Uka of Wukari, HRM Manu Ishaku Adda Ali.
Respected elder statesman, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (Rtd), was represented by the Chief of Takum, HRH Barrister Sophia Ahmadu.
Governor Kefas Pledges Continued Service to Taraba People
In his address, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed profound gratitude to the people of Southern Taraba for the honour bestowed upon him. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development while appealing for patience and cooperation.
“No meaningful progress happens overnight,” Kefas noted. “I urge our people to remain steadfast and trust the process of rebuilding Taraba.”
Commendations and Promises of Support from Key Stakeholders
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of General Danjuma, HRH Sophia Ahmadu applauded the organisers and attendees for promoting unity.
Former Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame praised Kefas’s vision and revealed plans by a close associate to build a Five-Star hotel in Jalingo — a major investment outcome of the recently concluded TARAVEST 2025 economic summit.
Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) commended the governor’s peacebuilding efforts between the Tiv and Jukun communities and pledged to rally support for his administration across Benue and Taraba States.
The Aku Uka of Wukari, HRM Manu Ishaku, described Governor Kefas as “a worthy son and pride of Southern Taraba,” lauding his achievements in security, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
A Day of Culture, Awards, and Unity
The event featured captivating cultural displays, the presentation of an honorary award and gifts to the governor and his wife, and a commemorative group photograph.
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Elder John Mamman, said the occasion was meant to appreciate God’s grace upon Southern Taraba and to celebrate one of its own attaining the highest political office in the state.
The Publicity Planning Committee was chaired by former Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Barrister Danjuma Adamu.
