The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has expressed concern over the recent wave of protests in Togo, particularly in the capital city of Lomé, which have led to both human casualties and material damage.

In a press release issued from its Abuja headquarters, ECOWAS called for restraint among all parties involved, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and peaceful engagement.
The Commission stressed that restoring calm is crucial for maintaining social cohesion and fostering a stable environment for Togo’s socio-economic and political development.
“ECOWAS urges all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and avoid actions that could further destabilize the nation,” the statement read. The regional body also extended its sympathy to those affected and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace-building efforts in the country.
The unrest in Togo has drawn international attention, prompting appeals for a return to peace and inclusive engagement from civil society, political actors, and international partners
