Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially flagged off the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) nationwide skills acquisition programme aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with practical and employable skills.
The initiative, launched as part of efforts to tackle unemployment and drive economic growth, is expected to provide thousands of young Nigerians with training in various technical, vocational and innovation-driven fields across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Shettima said the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to empowering youths, boosting entrepreneurship and creating a workforce capable of meeting the demands of a modern economy.
He noted that investing in skills development remains one of the most effective ways to address poverty and unemployment, stressing that the programme would help beneficiaries become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to the Vice President, the NASENI initiative is designed to bridge the gap between education and industry by providing practical training, mentorship and access to opportunities that can enhance productivity and innovation.
Officials of NASENI said the programme would be implemented nationwide, ensuring that youths from different regions have access to training opportunities tailored to local economic needs and emerging technological trends.
The agency expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen Nigeria’s human capital development efforts while supporting the government’s broader agenda of industrialisation and economic diversification.
Stakeholders at the event described the programme as a significant step toward addressing the skills deficit in the country and creating pathways for sustainable employment among young Nigerians.
