The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has confirmed that a group of its students who were stranded in China after completing a one-year academic exchange programme are now returning to Nigeria following the institution’s intervention.
The students, who participated in an international exchange programme in China, reportedly encountered difficulties securing their return trip after completing their studies. The situation raised concerns among parents and members of the university community, prompting swift action by the institution.
In a statement, UNILAG said it worked closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to resolve the challenges facing the students and facilitate their safe return home.
The university noted that arrangements had been concluded for the students’ journey back to Nigeria, adding that they were already en route to the country.
“Following concerted efforts by the university and engagement with the necessary authorities, the affected students are now on their way back to Nigeria,” the institution stated.
UNILAG reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its students, both within and outside the country, stressing that it would continue to provide support to participants in international academic programmes.
The development has brought relief to the affected students and their families, ending weeks of uncertainty over their return from China.
The university also expressed appreciation to all parties who contributed to resolving the situation, while encouraging students participating in overseas programmes to maintain communication with the institution to ensure timely assistance whenever necessary.
The returning students are expected to arrive in Nigeria in the coming days.
