Security operations across several Nigerian states have recorded significant breakthroughs as troops and police intensify efforts to combat rising insecurity.

In Plateau State, troops under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-agency security outfit deployed to restore peace in the region, confirmed the neutralization of three notorious bandits in Wase Local Government Area during an early morning offensive on May 31, 2025.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, the media information officer for OPSH, the operation was launched based on credible intelligence which led troops to criminal hideouts near Pinau Village.

“Troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle and overwhelmed them with superior firepower, killing three. Others escaped with gunshot wounds, as evident from blood trails found along their withdrawal routes,” the statement noted.
During the operation, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and a loaded magazine, now in custody for further investigation. Follow-up operations are underway to track the fleeing criminals.

Meanwhile, in Kwara State, the Police Command announced the arrest of 37 suspects allegedly involved in a spate of criminal activities, including kidnapping, robbery, and cult-related violence. The arrests follow weeks of intensified surveillance and targeted raids across the state.

Elsewhere, Hon. Ahmed Adamu Saba, a member of the House of Representatives representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, raised alarm over increased cases of banditry and kidnapping in his constituency. He called on federal security agencies to take urgent steps to protect lives and property.

In Benue State, stakeholders from Agatu Local Government Area issued a communiqué urging the government to urgently intervene in the worsening security situation. The group also advised political actors to suspend political endorsements amid the growing violence, which they say threatens peace and development in the region.
