The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed as false claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, once participated in a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The church said a viral photograph showing Pastor Adeboye holding a placard during a public walk has been repeatedly misrepresented online as evidence of opposition to Jonathan’s government.

In a statement, RCCG clarified that the image was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the church, the exercise was aimed at drawing attention to the killing of Christians and other innocent Nigerians and to urge authorities to improve security across the country.

RCCG explained that Pastor Adeboye’s participation in the walk in Ebute Metta, Lagos, had no connection to the Jonathan administration and was not a political protest.

The church added that the cleric’s message at the event focused on the sanctity of human life and called for the protection of both Christians and Muslims.

RCCG further noted that while Pastor Adeboye is a spiritual leader and not a government official, he has consistently spoken on issues affecting the nation.

The church recalled that during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye urged the Federal Government to take stronger measures against insecurity and called for decisive action against terrorists and their sponsors.

It reiterated that Pastor Adeboye does not hold political office and that RCCG is not affiliated with any political party.

The church also stressed that neither the cleric nor the denomination should be held responsible for the country’s current challenges.

RCCG urged members of the public to verify information through its official channels before sharing claims about Pastor Adeboye, emphasizing the need for accuracy, context and responsible communication.
