Nigeria Congratulates Benin Republic on Independence Day, Reaffirms ECOWAS Solidarity

Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Republic of Benin on the occasion of its Independence Anniversary, underscoring the enduring bond between both West African neighbours.

In a goodwill message conveyed by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to his Beninese counterpart, His Excellency Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, Nigeria commended Benin for its steady progress and contributions to regional peace, integration, and democratic governance.

“As Nigeria’s close neighbour and trusted partner, the Republic of Benin holds a vital place in our shared history and aspirations,” Tuggar stated, highlighting deep-rooted cultural ties and strategic cooperation in trade, security, and development.

The message reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and continuing collaboration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), especially in promoting stability and prosperity across the sub-region.

Nigeria also applauded Benin’s role in advancing regional integration and praised the nation’s resilience and democratic values as it marked another year of independence.

Signed on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the statement concluded with a pledge to deepen cooperation and solidarity between the two nations in pursuit of a more united and progressive West Africa.
