Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sacked all commissioners and political appointees whose appointments were nullified by the recent Supreme Court judgement on the state’s political crisis.

The Governor made the announcement on Wednesday, during a valedictory session held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara confirmed that all cabinet members and political appointees affected by the ruling had been relieved of their duties.

“All commissioners and other public officers whose appointments were affected by the Supreme Court’s judgement are hereby relieved of their duties,” the statement read.

Supreme Court Ruling Reshapes Rivers Political Landscape

The Supreme Court recently declared the three-man factional Rivers House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo as unlawful, and recognised the 27-member Assembly loyal to Speaker Martins Amaewhule as the legitimate legislative arm of the state.

As a result, all legislative decisions made by the Oko-Jumbo-led group, including the screening and confirmation of commissioners and public officers, were nullified. The court’s verdict effectively voided Fubara’s key cabinet appointments.

Sources confirm that over 19 commissioners, including Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Iboroma Dagogo, SAN, were affected by the ruling. Others include Charles O. Beke, Collins Onunwo, Solomon Eke, Peter Medee, Elloka Tasie-Amadi, Basoene Joshua Benibo, Tambari Sydney Gbara and Ovy Orluideye Chinendum Chukwuma

Fubara Calls for Unity, Reaffirms Commitment to Serve

Governor Fubara, while thanking his outgoing cabinet members for their service over the past two years, reaffirmed his commitment to governing with renewed vigor.

“I thank all members of my cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of Rivers State. We must now move forward.”

The Governor also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to work together with President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.

“Let us all come together to rebuild our country and create a brighter future for all,” Fubara urged
