Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja following a highly impactful diplomatic tour, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, and later concluded a series of strategic engagements in Germany.

During the week-long international mission, Kashim Shettima’s UN General Assembly address strongly advocated for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, and emphasized the need for Africa to have a greater voice in global governance.

Advocacy for Africa and Strategic Partnerships

Vice President Shettima used the global stage to champion Africa’s sovereignty over its estimated $700 billion worth of mineral resources, highlighting the continent’s right to self-determination in economic and development matters.

In a series of high-level meetings, he deepened strategic partnerships with key international stakeholders including the United Kingdom, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other global development partners, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development.

UN Secretary-General Endorses Nigeria’s Security Council Bid

During a crucial meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Shettima received commendation for Nigeria’s leadership and its bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, marking a significant diplomatic milestone for the country.

Promoting Nigeria’s $200 Billion Energy Opportunity

Another major highlight of the Vice President’s mission was his presentation of Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to global investors. He invited foreign partners to tap into the vast potential of Nigeria’s energy sector, positioning the country as a key player in the global shift to renewable energy.

Engagement with the Nigerian Diaspora

Before heading to Germany, VP Shettima engaged with members of the Nigerian diaspora community, assuring them of their integral role in the Tinubu administration’s policies and national development efforts.
