The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) has awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a state-of-the-art 5 Tesla helium-free Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, in a move aimed at improving diagnostic services and patient care.
Presenting the contract award letter to the successful contractor, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Thairu Yunusa, described the project as a significant step in the hospital’s efforts to expand access to advanced medical technology and specialised healthcare services.
Professor Yunusa said the MRI machine, once delivered and installed, would strengthen the hospital’s ability to diagnose complex medical conditions with greater accuracy and speed.
“The installation of this MRI machine will greatly enhance our diagnostic capabilities, support timely clinical decision-making, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” he said.
He noted that the helium-free technology offers improved operational efficiency and reduces many of the safety and maintenance challenges associated with conventional MRI systems.
According to the CMD, the acquisition aligns with UATH’s vision of becoming a leading centre for specialised healthcare delivery, medical training and research. He added that, as a key teaching hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, the institution remains committed to providing diagnostic and interventional services that meet global standards.
The hospital said the contract was awarded following a transparent and competitive bidding process conducted in line with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007 and other due process requirements.
Responding on behalf of the contracting firm, a company representative thanked the hospital management for the confidence placed in the organisation and pledged to ensure the timely delivery and installation of the equipment in accordance with the contract specifications.
