As part of its ongoing commitment to peacebuilding and community development, the Ghanaian Contingent (GHANCOY 9) under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) has carried out a major humanitarian outreach at Farafenni Senior Secondary School, located 115 kilometers from Barra.

Led by Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, the peacekeeping unit donated essential school materials and sanitary pads, placing strong emphasis on promoting girls’ education and wellbeing. A key highlight of the event was an interactive health awareness session conducted by Captain Victoria Yayira Galley, who educated the students on menstrual hygiene and tackled cultural taboos surrounding the subject.

The school principal expressed deep appreciation, describing the intervention as timely, meaningful, and impactful. This initiative is part of ECOMIG’s broader mandate to foster peace and social cohesion through meaningful engagement with local communities.
