The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a statewide free medical and surgical outreach in Taraba State to provide healthcare services to thousands of residents as part of activities marking the 58th birthday of its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.
The five-day humanitarian programme, organised under the party’s Renewed Hope agenda, began on Monday at the First Referral Hospital, Sunkani, in Ardo Kola Local Government Area and will run unti this month. An official flag-off ceremony is scheduled for this month at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo.
The initiative offers free medical consultations, health screenings, medicines, wound care, emergency treatment, patient counselling and health education. It also includes free and subsidised surgical procedures aimed at improving access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved communities.
Healthcare teams have been deployed across Taraba’s three senatorial districts to ensure residents can access the services close to their communities.
In the Southern Senatorial District, the outreach is taking place at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, and General Hospital, Takum. In the Central District, services are available at General Hospital, Bali, and General Hospital, Gembu, while beneficiaries in the Northern District are being treated at General Hospital, Bambur, and the First Referral Hospital, Sunkani.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with the Taraba State Ministry of Health and the Libertad Health Foundation.
Organisers said the initiative reflects the APC’s commitment to delivering practical social interventions through its Renewed Hope agenda.
“Healing Lives, Restoring Hope, Building Healthier Communities,” the organisers said, describing the outreach as part of efforts to expand access to quality healthcare and reduce the financial burden of medical treatment on residents.
They added that the programme also promotes the ideals of “Free Medical Services for All,” “Together We Celebrate Life and Service,” and “Renewed Hope, Better Health, Stronger Taraba.”
According to the organisers, the outreach is intended to improve health outcomes through preventive care, medical treatment, surgical interventions and public health education while commemorating Professor Goshwe’s 58th birthday.
