The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued certificates of expulsion to the eleven members removed during its recent National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Those expelled include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former National Secretary of the Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and eight others.
Speaking to journalists after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Tanimu Turaki, explained that the issuance of the certificates was to fully authenticate the expulsion of the affected members.
He displayed the documents while addressing the press, “This is the certificate of expulsion of His Excellency Nyesom Wike. An original copy has been sent to him via courier.”
Here is the certificate for His Excellency Ayodele Fayose; it has also been dispatched. This is proof that they have been expelled from the PDP. The certificate for Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu has equally been sent.”
Dr. Turaki revealed that the NWC also reviewed the rising insecurity across the country and urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to protect citizens.
“We have carefully assessed the security situation and concluded that the Federal Government has much more to do. The protection of lives and property is the most basic responsibility of any government. With kidnappings and killings happening nationwide, the APC-led administration has fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations,” he stated.
Responding to reports of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged defection, the PDP Chairman said the party had not received any official communication and described the circulating letter as unverified.
“Primaries are ongoing, so whatever he said in a press conference holds no weight at the moment. We only saw a letter in the media claiming he resigned from the party, but we have not received any formal notice,” he added.
Meanwhile, the PDP has pledged to strengthen internal reforms and reconnect with Nigerians. Dr. Turaki made this commitment in Abuja while receiving handover notes from his predecessor, Ambassador Umar Damagum.
He assured that the current National Working Committee would draw from the experience of party leaders to reposition the PDP.
In his remarks, Ambassador Damagum insisted that the PDP remains a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
