Commitment to Ogoni and Niger Delta Development
President Tinubu emphasized that FUET’s establishment goes beyond creating an educational institution; it represents a step toward addressing historical grievances and fostering new opportunities for the Ogoni people.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our national journey towards environmental justice, education, and sustainable development. The Ogoni people have suffered enough environmental degradation. This university reaffirms our commitment to their progress,” Tinubu stated.

He commended the National Assembly for passing the bill and acknowledged the efforts of the Ogoni delegation in advocating for the university’s creation.

“Your steadfast advocacy for justice is encouraging. It will be rewarded, I assure you,” the President added.

Driving Sustainable Development and Clean Energy Solutions
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa highlighted that FUET would focus on interdisciplinary programs, equipping students with skills to tackle Nigeria’s environmental challenges and contribute to national economic growth.

National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu noted that the university would play a crucial role in addressing long-standing environmental concerns in Ogoniland while promoting inclusive development.

Senator Mpigi Barinada, who led the Ogoni delegation, expressed gratitude to the President for signing the bill. He also recognized the contributions of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and NSA Ribadu in facilitating the legislative process.

Barinada described the university as a “beacon of hope” for the Ogoni people, encouraging peace and development in the region.
