FEC Approves Leather Manufacturing Support, N2 Billion Insurance for Airports

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a contract for the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology to supply starter packs for manufacturing leather goods and footwear, a move aimed at boosting local production and entrepreneurship.

Briefing State House correspondents, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, welcomed the decision, highlighting that a portion of the intervention would directly benefit women.

In a related development, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, announced FEC’s approval for the insurance of critical assets under the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He explained that this move aligns with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s directive mandating all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to insure vital government assets.

Keyamo further stated that compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards requires airports to be insured before certification. The insurance, covering both airports and personnel, will cost approximately ₦2 billion, with shortlisted insurance firms set to handle the process.
