House of Reps Moves to Halt Multichoice Price Hike

The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged Multichoice to halt its proposed 20-25% price increase pending a comprehensive investigation by the Green Chamber. In an urgent Motion of Public Importance, Edo State lawmaker Esosa Iyawe raised alarms over the timing and frequency of these recurring price hikes, noting that they have sparked significant public outrage and led many Nigerians to cancel their subscriptions.

Lawmaker Iyawe emphasized that the most recent price hike has ignited widespread criticism from subscribers, who are frustrated by the increased costs. In response, the House has mandated its Committee on Information to investigate the matter and recommend the implementation of cost-effective policies within the pay-TV sector.

The committee is expected to present its findings within four weeks, paving the way for further legislative action. This decisive move underscores the growing demand for accountability and consumer protection in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape.
