The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has confirmed the abduction of two of its staff members in the Ogun region, raising fresh concerns over the safety of utility workers in the area.
In a statement issued by the company’s management and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, IBEDC disclosed that the incident occurred last month.
The company expressed deep concern over the development, noting that efforts are underway to secure the safe release of the abducted employees.
“Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) confirms that two of its staff members in the Ogun region were abducted last month,” the statement read.
“We are deeply concerned about this situation, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families at this difficult time.”
IBEDC further revealed that it is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the victims’ safe return, while also supporting their families during the ordeal.
“IBEDC is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure the safe return of the affected staff. We are also in active engagement with their families, providing the necessary support,” the company stated.
The distribution company, however, declined to provide additional details, citing the sensitive nature of the situation and ongoing rescue efforts.
“Given the sensitive nature of this incident and ongoing efforts to resolve it, we are unable to provide further details at this time,” the statement added.
“We kindly request understanding and restraint as we prioritise the safety and well-being of those involved. We will provide updates as appropriate.”
The incident adds to growing security concerns affecting workers across various sectors, particularly in regions experiencing rising cases of abductions.
