The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed reports that it confiscated the international passport of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.
A senior NIS official, who pleaded anonymity, described the incident at the airport as a routine clearance procedure.
“She was not detained. Her passport may have been taken briefly for standard verification,” the officer clarified.
When contacted, NIS spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi said he was away from Abuja but promised to investigate the incident and provide an official statement once details were confirmed.
Earlier, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had alleged during a Facebook Live session that her passport was confiscated on the orders of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
However, the passport was later returned to her during the live broadcast, easing concerns among her supporters.
The NIS is yet to issue a formal statement addressing the Senator’s allegations as investigations continue.
